We, the youth of the church, welcome any and all who wish to join us on our journey of Faith, Friendship and Fun! Here at First Presbyterian Church the youth are known as the Presbyterian Youth Fellowship, or PYF for short. We are a very active part of our church and community ... and we have a big voice!
Current 7th-12th graders are allowed to attend all of our regular youth activities.
Wednesdays Together Program
Twenty weeks out of the year our church has a Wednesdays Together gathering in the Fellowship Hall where we share food and fellowship with our congregation. The meal is from 5:30-6:00 and following is programming for adults, youth and children. The youth take on different initiative challenges each week that help them learn more about themselves and the group. These activities are high energy, fast paced and lots of fun.
Thursday mornings from 7:15-7:45 the Sr. High group of youth members (9th-12th) meet at Panera for a light breakfast and prayer. If you can get your parents to drop you off that early, we arrange rides to school from the breakfast.
Starting at 10:00 am every Sunday morning youth meet in the PYF room for a scripture lesson and discussion.
Sunday PYF Activities
We keep pretty busy on Sundays doing God’s work! Every Sunday we have an evening PYF activity. Most Sundays we have PYF split between our Junior and Senior High groups with a shared meal. During these times we study themes in scripture and how it applies to our everyday lives, we plan our mission and community projects and we grow in Christian fellowship with one another.
Once a month we spend Sunday afternoon helping out with a local community project. In the past we have assisted at the food pantry, visited the nursing home, helped out at Camp Hopewell, wrapped presents for the Christmas Store, collected money and items for Angel Ranch and many other projects.
We also enjoy being invited into the homes of families within our congregation. Members open their homes and feed us amazing food! It is a wonderful way for the members to get to know their younger counterparts within the congregation.
Retreats and Mission Projects
On a yearly basis we attend the Jr. and Sr. High PYC retreats at Hopewell, have a fall youth retreat at Hopewell, attend summer youth conferences at the Montreat Conference Center in North Carolina, go on coastal Spring Break mission trips and plan week-long summer mission trips in different locations.
