The Session

First Presbyterian Church, Oxford, is governed by “presbyters”, or elders, who are lay leaders elected by the congregation. These elders are the spiritual leaders of the church who work alongside the pastors to discern the movement of God’s Holy Spirit throughout our various ministries. Collectively these elders are called the Session and serve a three-year term.

The Diaconate

Each year, FPC elects fifteen members from the congregation to serve as the hands and feet of Christ through its leadership of caring. Deacons are true servant leaders providing food, transportation, visitation and ushering at worship services, including funerals.

Ministry Teams

FPC has eight standing ministry teams, comprised of two elders and members of the congregation, that seek to serve the church in their respected area of ministry. If you are interested in joining one of these ministry teams, please contact the church office.

Worship

Worship

The Worship Ministry Team assists the pastors and the Director of Music in planning worship by handling details such as sanctuary flowers, communion servers and readers for special services and by updating wedding and funeral policies as needed. The adult education ministry team plans and executes various adult discipleship opportunities, such as Sunday schools, Wednesdays Together, The David Freeman Lecture Series, and other special events throughout the year. Learn more here.

The Finance Ministry Team supports every ministry of FPC through regular financial review and an annual stewardship campaign. This ministry team also manages any endowments given to the church.

The Property Ministry Team is charged with the care and upkeep of our facilities and equipment in order to support all the various ministries of FPC. They also receive and review all requests for the use of church property.
